A month ago, an adorable story about a 5-year-old boy who got the same haircut as his African American BFF so that "the teacher couldn't tell them apart" went viral. Now, a similar story is making its rounds on the Internet.

South Carolina mom Brandi Benner recently took her 2-year-old daughter, Sophia, to Target to pick out a special gift as a prize for a whole month of successful potty training. Sophia chose a lovely dark-skinned doll, but as they were checking out, the cashier asked Sophia if she was going to a birthday party. Sophia and her mother both stared at her blankly, so the cashier pointed at the doll and asked again if she picked it out for her friend. When Brandi explained to the cashier that the doll was a gift for Sophia, the cashier looked puzzled and reportedly asked Sophia, "Are you sure this is the doll you want, honey?"

Sophia immediately responded, "Yes please!" and when the cashier apparently said, "But she doesn't look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you," Sophia gave a response much wiser than her years:

"Yes, she does. She's a doctor like I'm a doctor. And I'm a pretty girl and she's a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?"

Brandi detailed the experience on Facebook on March 31, saying that it "confirmed my belief that we aren't born with the idea that color matters. Skin comes in different colors just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful." It has since gone massively viral, with over 484,000 likes and over 191,000 shares.

GoodHousekeeping.com caught up with Brandi, who said the attention her post has received has been "overwhelming."

"I still can't quite wrap my head around it. But the majority of the response has been positive. We have been shown so much love and encouragement from so many strangers from all over the world. It has really been quite amazing."

Target has not yet reached out to her about the story, but Brandi said that she would have never called the retailer out by name if she had known the post would go viral.

"I love their store and I truly don't believe the cashier was trying to be malicious with her questions. She was elderly and she thought Sophia was a cutie and was trying to make conversation. And yes, she was also white and I think ignorant to what she was actually implying. I'm not saying that makes it okay. But I also don't wish any ill will towards her."

As for "Dr. Sophia," she absolutely loves the doll, whom she named Meagann Cece. Now, she's finally got someone to help her when she does her daily checkups!
